About Phra Sumen Fort
Phra Sumen Fort is the hexagon shape concrete fort built during the reign of King Rama. It was built along with 13 other forts to protect Bangkok. Apart from Mahakan Fort, this is the only one standing. It was built in the year 1783 as a defense against potential invasions and named after the mythical Mt Meru (Phra Sumen in Thai) of Hindu-Buddhist cosmology. Beside the river is a beautiful, grassy park with an open-air pavilion, river views and cool breezes that relax your mind and soul. It is a white structure and has three floors full of rooms where weapons and ammunition were stored. Cannons are deployed at level two of the fort and have an observation tower overlooking the area. On the top floor, you will find a museum where items found in the fort during renovation are on display. Apart from its historical contents, it is also considered a romantic place as it has the pristine park in front of it.
