About Jama Masjid, Srinagar
The World-reflecting Mosque, or Jama Masjid, constructed by a crew of 6,000 workers over a period of 6 years stands in prime location, ready to receive the 25,000 worshipers it was built for. It’s doubtful whether it ever receives, THAT many. However, the vast courtyard rolls out before the main building of sandstone and white marble, reached by a flight of 772 steps from the main thorougfare below. The majority of carvings are of a Hindu or Jain tradition, which can be found throughout this impressive temple of worship.
