About Prince of Wales Museum, Mumbai
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, formerly Prince of Wales Museum is one of the main attractions of Mumbai. It is located in the heart of the city. The museum was established in early 20th century to mark the visit of “Prince of Wales” to Mumbai. As we see the architecture of the museum building, it is of perfect mixture of Indo-Saracenic, Mughal, Jain and Maratha style of architecture. The area surrounding the building has beautiful garden decorated with Pal trees and flower beds.
Tourists can see three sections in this museum namely Art, Archaeological and Natural History. Number of total exhibits at the Museum are over50,000. The coins collections, Maritime heritage gallery, Geological collections, etc are major attraction of the museum. Museum also houses Textile Gallery and Forestry Gallery.
