About Bandipur National Park
Bandipur National Park, which is 80 km away from Mysore, is one of the best of its kind. It was established as a Tiger Reserve in 1974 under the Project Tiger initiative of the Indian Government. The Bandipur National Park covers about 880 sq.km. of area and is a vibrant habitat for over 100 species of animals, including, tigers(of course), elephants, chital, bison, sambhar, sloth bear, etc..
This park is adjoined by Mudumalai National Park of Tamilnadu and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary of Kerala making this area the largest biosphere reserve in the India.
NH-67 and NH-212 pass through Bandipur National Park and it is a very beautiful drive. But, one can only drive here from 6AM onwards till evening. There have been a lot of accidents harming wildlife, and hence do take necessary precautions while driving through here.
The Bandipur Safari Lodge offers safaris in well- secured buses and jeeps.
