Lankarama Stupa , Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka
About Lankarama Stupa
Although little is known of the Lankarama Stupa, it is certain that it was built by King Vattagamini Abhaya around 1st century BC. This dagoba rising above ground up to a height of 3 meters is comparatively smaller than other giant dagobas of this ancient city Anuradhapura. The dagoba is encircled with a number of stone pillars which might have been used for the construction of a vatadage. Only the Stupa and a few pillars out of the 88 remain today. There is an aged pond called Eth pond or ‘elephant pond' whose water is supplied by the tank through underground channels which, too, must have been built in the ancient times.
