About Nirmal Hriday, Kolkata
Situated right at the heart of Kalighat in the vicinity of the house of the dark exotic goddess, Nirmal Hriday, formerly known as Mother Teresa's Kalighat Home for the Dying destitudes is a place that will reinstate your faith in humanity. This place has been functional since the Mother's 42nd birthday in 1952. This place was created to take care of the sick with nobody to look after them. This place ensures that these destitudes die knowing that they were cared for. It is open to anybody who needs help. A lot of its inmates are terminally ill, afflicted by diseases like AIDS and Tubercolosis. A children's home 'Shishu Bhavan' was also opened in 1957 for supposedly unwanted newborns. There's no point calling these children 'unwanted' because they are definitely not so here. Despite the pain, hope is in abundance at Nirmal Hriday. This place gives you a new perspective on pain and harsh reality. It shows how bad can never exist without good. It is, they say, a home for the unwanted. I'll say, this is where God has taken the 'not-so-priviledged' under his wing. So, if you want to take part in God's mission, this is the place you are looking for.
