About Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary
Covering approximately 3568 square kilometers, Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary or Srisailam Sanctuary or formerly called Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve is a renowned Tiger reserve. The entire topography has many canyons intruding the area. Most of the area are wrapped up by dry deciduous vegetation and of course scrub of thick bamboo. You can come across Leopard, Tiger, deer, sloth bear, Hyena etc. The Srisailam Dam down water gives shelter to various Crocodiles and Alligators. This sanctuary sprawls across nearly five districts in Andhra like Guntur, Kurnool, Nalgonda, Mahaboobnagar and Prakasam.
The 'Chenchus' primitive tribals, are indigenous to the area. You can stay in Forest rest houses are 40 bed dormitories which functions mainly for tourists.
