About Fort William, Kolkata
Fort William is a fort in Kolkata on the banks of River Hooghly, originally built by British East India Company in 17th century. These days most of the fort is under control of Indian Army.
Fort William is one of Calcutta’s top tourist spots. Fort William was named after King William III of England. The British were defeated at the fort during the Plassey War of 1757. Following the defeat, the British later reconstructed the fort.
