About Chagri Dorjeden Monastery
Also known as the Cheri Monastery, Chagri Dorjeden in one of the oldest monastery in the country and was established by Ngawang Namgyal, the founder of the Bhutanese state. Situated high up in the hills, north of Thimphu, the place is known for its untouched serenity and astonishing view which can be observed during the Cheri Trek which takes the adventurous souls through the quiet woods.
Being a leading retreat centre of the Southern Drukpa Lineage, it is a meditational abode for those seeking peace and calm from the busy life of the present times. It can be visited all-round the year, but it is advisable to make bookings in advance.
