Trip Overview

Hampta pass trek is initiation to the HImalayan trekking. The trail to Hampta Pass combines 2 different side of the Himachal for you. Kullu and Lahaul are two adjoining districts and are separated by the formidable Rohtang La. Rohtang La is snow bound from October to June. Both the valleys are geographically quite different. The Kullu/Manali valleys are green with thick forest cover and heavy rains. However, Lahaul is in a rain-shadow area with partial Trans-Himalayan barrenness.

Brief Itinerary:

Day 1: Manali - Prini - Jobri - Chikka | 40 Mins Drive - 3/4 Hrs Trek

Reporting Time: 9:30 am at Prini, 3 kms from Manali

Trekkers are expected to reach Pirni (2 km from Manali) by the reporting time, here you will be received by our team. Once all the group members have come-in, we'll drive to the trek starting point Jobri (In the spirit of trekking, we'll wait for the whole group to come-in before the trek starts, that said, drive to jobri will start latest by 11 am).

The trekking trail alternates from thick forests and open grounds till Chikka. We will be crossing few glacial streams over improvised wood bridges. After 3-4 hrs into the trek, we'll greeted by beautiful forested peaks, visible form Chikka. From here we also get an excellent view of Deo Tibba and Indrasan group of peaks. We'll be in Chikka by lunch time. Overnight camping in Chikka.

Day 2: Chikka to Bhalu Ka Ghera | 5/6 Hrs Trek

The trail leads to alpine meadows, full of interesting flora. After crossing stream at Juara, the glacial features of the surrounding mountains can be seen along the way. Bhalu ka Ghera (Bear’s Circle), in it's literal sense, is a place where brown bears are said to hibernate during winters. A beautiful camping spot and it is here that we camp for the night.

Day 3: Bhalu Ka Ghera - Hampta Pass (4270 m) - Bhalu Ka Ghera | 7/8 Hrs Trek

Today is when you feel the trek the most, it's going to be a long day. We start early (at around 7 am) and trek for 4-5 hours before we reach Hampta Pass. Today is also the day you'll use your cameras the most, keep etra battery in handy. The final ridge during the trek is a little steep accent. When snow-bound you will have to cut steps in the ice and be very sure footed. All this hard is rewarding, views from here are breath taking. The peaks of in Lahaul, particularly in the Kulti valley and of the Chandrabhaga group, are seen as a huge cluster, with peak of Mulkila IV raising its head above them. From top of the pass you can see the majestic Mt. Deo Tibba (6001m), Indrasan (6221m) and the mighty Greater Himalayan and Pir Panjal Range.

Day 4: Bhalu Ka Ghera to Jobri - Drive to Manali | 6/7 Hrs Trek, 1 Hrs Drive

After the hearty breakfast, we'll check out from the camps by 9 am and proceeding to Juara and then Chikka. After lunch at Chikka we walk to Jobri. This is where the trek comes to an end. There will be vehicles waiting here to drop you to Prini, Manali.
