About Gal Oya National Park
Surrounding an enormous reservoir, the Gal Oya National Park is famed for its peaceful and serene surroundings. Distinct from other national parks, Gal Oya is not high on its mammal population, but is a home to many aquatic birds and a few animals. While small herds of elephants, water buffalos and monkeys can seldom be spotted, flocks of miniature and exotic birds can be seen nesting and hunting by the reservoir.
Lesser known by tourists, the Gal Oya National Park is extremely quiet, filling the air with the sweet melodies of bird chirping. The topography varies from shrubs, grasslands to dense forests, all housing large herds of the native Sri Lankan deer species. The towering mountains stretching by the green vegetation and glistening lake provide a picture perfect shot for the photographers. Overall, Gal Oya National Park is a paradise for the nature lovers who wish to enjoy the peace and quiet, and definitely not for those who want to experience the thrill of wildlife spotting.
