Cherrapunjee or Cherrapunji - The Rain Capital of the World is the Guiness world record holder as the wettest place on earth. Yes Cherrapunji and nearby areas receives highest annual rainfall in the world. Cherrapunjee is a small town in the East Khasi Hill district in Meghalaya. 58 kilometers from Shillong, Cherrapunjee is embellished with plentiful showers, swirling clouds and warm sunshine making it a perfect destination to relinquish your difficulties and admire the pastel grey skies and floral enchantments of unimaginable hues the city has to offer to its travelers.

Cherrapunjee is also known as Sohra. Cherrapunjee was originaly called as Sohra, but British changed it to "Churra" which became Cherrapunjee in time. Amidst the aesthetic orchids and alluring waterfalls what is really surprising about Cherrapunjee is despite being credited as one of the rainiest places on earth most of the rail falls during the night leaving daily activity uninterrupted.

There are numerous waterfalls in an around Cherrapunjee, including Dainthlen waterfalls, Nohkalikai waterfalls, Nohsngithiang waterfalls and Kynrem waterfalls. The Living Toot bridges, Mawsmai caves, pillar rock and Sohra market are some of the other tourist attractions.

There are many trek routes around Cherrapunji, the most famous of them all is the "Double Decker Living Root" bridge in Nongriat village starting from Tyrna. One of the most scenic sight this place has to offer is the 'Double decker living root bridge' trek that provides a wonderful fusion of nature and adventure. The countless waterfalls like the seven sisters, Kynrem, Nohkalikai and the city's charismatic valleys painted with mist and dew are sure to take your breath away. The flora and fauna are said to dance to the rhythm of the rain that makes Cherrapunjee a botanist's dream and a photographer's absolute delight.  Places for visit around Cherrapunji include Nohkalikai Falls, Dainthlen Falls, Kynrem Falls and Mawsmai Cave. Dawki is about 3 hours drive from Cherrapunji.

August is typically believed to be the best time to visit.
