Goa is synonymous with good times. To say that Goa has something for everyone will be an understatement. The smallest state in India on the western lush green Konkan coast of Indian peninsula also holds the title of the richest state in the country. Goa was a Portuguese colony, up to 1961, when it was handed over to India. But the Portuguese influence is still quite evident in Goan food, culture and people. The capital of Goa is Panaji (or Panjim) and Vasco da Gama is the largest city. Beautiful sandy beaches, historical architecture, scenic natural beauty and warm hospitality of people attract tourists from all over to Goa. Goa is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the country, mainly due to the warm & clean beaches, numerous beach site resorts, shacks and the carnival like atmosphere almost round the year. Millions of tourists come to Goa each year for a relaxed holiday during which they can indulge in water sports, clubbing, go biking or take cultural tour of tour of the old Goa. Central Goa is the place where you will find city hustle-bustle and many old churches and other historical monuments are some of the most visited Goa tourist attractions.
There are hundreds of fantastic places to visit in Goa. Goa is divided into two districts – North and South. Panjim is the capital of North Goa and Margao of South Goa. North Goa is considered the party capital, with its vibrant nightlife, happening beaches and flourishing restaurants. South Goa is quieter with its stretches of white sandy beaches, lush greenery and luxurious resorts. North Goa beaches of Candolim, Calangute, Anjuna, Baga and Vagator have a wide array of activities for tourists interested in partying, eating local and international foods and people watching. Fort Aguada is also a popular destination in North Goa. Varca, Majorda, Betal Batim, Colva and Palolem are some of the South Goa beaches, known for boutique hotels and luxurious hotels.
Colonial and Portuguese architecture, authentic Goan food, cashew plantations, churches and natural splendor – visit Goa for all that and more. Best time to visit Goa is between September and March. During the Monsoon season also Goa has nice weather but sea is rough and beach shacks are closed.
