About Dajipur Wildlife Sanctuary
Dajipur Sanctuary or Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the catchment area of Sahu and Laxmi Sagar in Kolahpur. The Sanctuary is spread over a vast area of 351 sq. kms, which is covered with trees of Anjani, Jambul, Hirda, Awala, Pisa, Ain etc. The place is rich in both flora and fauna and dwell some of the rarest medicinal plants. The area is rich in Laterite and Red soil and is also known producing the highest percentage of Bauxite. Mining is one of the threats the wild animal population here.
The Sanctuary is a habitat for bison, Leopard, Sloth bear, Wild boar, Barking deer, mouse deer, sambar, Giant squirrel and Wild dogs. A large number of reptiles, amphibians and birds can also be sighted.
Sanctuary is also widely known as the "Bison Sanctuary" because of the relatively large number of Indian Bison or gaur here. Overnight Accommodations is available at forest rest house – ‘Dak bungalow’ and also there is a dormitory run by Forest department.
