About Tomb of St. Francis Xavier
The Tomb of St. Francis Xavier is in the Basilica of Bom Jesus Church in Old Goa and is a veritable pilgrimage for Catholics. The Basilica is declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts tourists from all over the world to view the holy remains of the patron saint. The tomb has three parts – the altar, mausoleum designed by an architect from Florence (Giovanni Batista Foggini) and the silver casket created by silversmiths from Goa. Every ten years, the sacred body of the saint is displayed on the death anniversary of St. Francis Xavier.
