About Calico Museum of Textiles
Located in a place called Shahibaug in Ahmedabad city, Calico Museum of Textiles is India’s first textile museum founded in 1949 by eminent businessman Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gira Sarabhai. Its splendid collection of Indian textiles ranging from good old Mugal times to the present is showcased in a very impressive fashion. They also have a huge collection of ritual art, temple hangings, beautiful paintings, Indian bronze, sculptures, furniture, crafts and Jain art. A visit to this place would surely leave each one of us astonished seeing the variety and advancement of our Indian textiles and other creations. Due to its location inside the house of the Sarabhai’s one has to take prior permission from the manager museum to enter this place. Entry is free to this place. They organize exploration tours for around 15-20 people on most days during mornings and afternoons. Enjoy the experience of being in such a wonderful place.
