About Corbett National Park
Jim Corbett National Park initially known as the Hailey National Park was established in 1936 with an objective to protect the endangered species of Bengal Tiger. It was later renamed after Jim Corbett, the celebrated legendary conservationis,t naturalist, who had hunted down man-eater tigers in Kumaon in Uttarakhand. Jim Corbett played an important role in its establishment of this park.
Project Tiger was initiated in Corbett National Park promoting wildlife preservation and awareness amongst population in terms of maintaining environmental stability. The Corbett Park is stretched between the districts of Nainital and Pauri, a shelter to 110 species of trees, 580 bird species and 50 kinds of mammals. Corbett National Park covers colossal expanse of over 520 sq. km. and is home to 25 reptile species as well and is enveloped with scenic hills, marshes, riverine belts, grasslands, rivers and streams.
The hospitality industry in the vicinity organizes a range of adventure oriented activities like rock-climbing, river crossing and rappelling. As the Park is divided into 6 zones depending on its ecosystem, it can be visited during anytime of the year taking into account what the traveler intends to explore. Sitabani Forest Reserve, Corbett Falls, Dhangari Museum and Sunrise Point, tourist spots near the park are worth visiting once travelers have finished savoring the grandeur of the Corbett Reserve.
Wild animals found here include Bengal tigers, Leopards, Sloth and Himalayan black bears, Elephants, Indian grey mongoose, Barking deer, Sambar, Chital and Cobra. Many safari packages are available. You’re not guaranteed to see the elusive tiger, but you will surely encounter some fascinating species.
