About Udupi
Udupi got district status in August 1997. It is surrounded by Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Shivamogga districts and Arabian Sea. The district is an important tourist and religious center of Karnataka State. Udupi is known for the eighth Krishna Matt, delicious cuisine, etc. Paddy, Coconut Grooves, Betel nut plantations, Cashew Plantations are major occupation near Udupi. Inland and Deep sea fishing are also part of occupation here. Syndicate Bank was established in Udupi in 1928.
Yakshagana is the traditional dance and art form of Udupi District. There are many institutes which perform and teach this type of dance and art in Udupi. During a festival named Nagaradhane, Yakshagana dances are performed by professionals. Udupi is known for many temples and beaches. Tourists find themselves busy visiting these temples and relaxing on the beaches on visiting Udupi. Biennial Paryaya is famous festival which is held on even years like 2008, 2010, 2012 etc. this festival is celebrated marking the charge of Lord Krishna temple is handed over to next Matha which will take care of temple and its activities. The in charge of temple is circulated among eight mathas once in every two years.

As time goes on, they added locally available ingredients and their own innovations to bring up a delicious cuisine which is famous all over the world. Souvenirs in Udupi includes traditional jewellery, pickle varieties, wheat and banana halwa, etc.
