Known the world over for its sunrise and sunset views of Himalayas, Nagarkot is located about 25km from Kathmandu. Being the most scenic region in Nepal you can spot snow topped peaks of the Himalayas from the observation tower located on top of the place’s hills.
The mesmerising beauty of Nagarkot made it a popular summer house among the royal family and other aristocrats of Kathmandu. Apart from its beautiful views, the town also has several temples and monasteries. This place is also popular among mountain bikers providing the perfect terrain with several ridges and valleys. If you are not a fan of biking you can take a peaceful stroll down a well-worn trail which passes through several villages.
You can also try to walk down the ancient Changu Narayan temple which is a magnificent temple, also declared as World Heritage site by UNESCO. The area is also surrounded by thick forest of pine trees located on top of hills which provide a breath-taking view. The unique thing about this place that you can take pony rides, meditate, do yoga, hike or simply stretch out on a terrace and enjoy the calmness of the surroundings.
The best time to visit Nagarkot is between October and March when you can clearly view the beautiful sunrise and sunsets.
