About Panaji
Literally meaning the ‘land that never floods’, Panaji or Panjim the capital city of Goa is beautifully terraced with hills and is located on the banks of river Mandovi. The concrete buildings with balconies and red tiled roofs, cobbled streets and churches give it a Portuguese ambience. The city has remnants of its glorious Portuguese past and the architecture in the city is testament to that. The erstwhile Portuguese colony is famous for its Our Lady Of The Immaculate Conception Church, Adilshahi Palace, Institute Menezes Braganza, Mahalaxmi temple, Chapel of St Sebastian. Hanuman Mandir at Mala on the hill top (Altinho). Every February Panjim comes alive when the Carnival arrives on the streets.
Miramar, Bambolim, and Dona Paula are three popular beaches located near Panaji. The Salim Ali bird sanctuary caters to the visual delight of bird watchers and enthusiasts.
Panaji is well connected and is 35 KMs away from Dabolim airport. The climate in Panaji is hot in summer and equable in winter. During summers (from March to May) the temperature reaches up to 32°C and in winters (from December to February) it is usually between 31 °C and 23 °C. The Fontanhais area consists of various restaurants serving both traditional Goan and other cuisines. The most popular include Verandah restaurant, Daawat, Black Sheep Bistro, Waterfront Terrace and Bar and Mirch Masala.
