About Udaipur
Udaipur, the "City of Lakes" is located in Rajasthan state of Western India. Once, this elegant city was ruled by Mewar Clan. After Independence, the city became part of Rajasthan State. Due to presence of large beautiful Lakes in and around the city, it is also mentioned as "Venice of East". Udaipur has privileged cultural and natural heritages. The people around here have the vanity impregnated in them for being under the rule of Mewar, one of the oldest Kingdoms of the region. Sprawling lakes and sumptuous Aravali Hill range bestow the city with a picturesque ambience. Udaipur along with Jodhpur is also quite a popular wedding destination for many celebrities.
Places to visit in Udaipur include of cource the City Palace, Lake Pichola and its Ghats, Saheliyon-ki-Bari, Maharana Pratap Samarak and Bagore Ki Haveli Museum. City Palace is the most recognizable tourist attarction and a landmark of the city. Besides most famous Lake Pichola, the many lakes of Udaipur include Fateh Sagar Lake, Swaroop Sagar and Udai Sagar. About 7 kms from Udaipur is Shilpgram or "craftsmen's village", a center to display rural arts and crafts of Rajasthan.
You must visit Kumbhalgarh fort on Udaipur tour. It’s about half a day trip from Udaipur. Kambhalgarh is famous for its fort which has a wall only next to Great Wall of China. Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary spread over rugged of the Aravali terrain near the fort is a great destination for wildlife enthusiasts.
Mount Abu and Chittorgarh are two other destinations worth exploring from Udaipur. Chittorgarh is known for its forts and other architectural marvels. Ranakpur is famous for its beautiful 15th century Jain temple which has a stunning architecture.
