Brief Itinerary:

Day 1: Manali Local Discovery

Indulge yourself in the local discovery and find the hidden gems of this enchanting Himalayan town. Visit Haddimba Devi Temple, perhaps the one and only shrine in the whole of India where the main deity is not a goddess in the real sense of the term, but a ‘Rakshasi’ or a female demon. Short visit to Vashisht Rishi Temple dedicated to sage Vashisht and houses a natural hot spring with therapeutic properties, the local Tibetan monastery and captivating solang valley.

Day 2: Manali to Chadrataal

After breakfast start your biking journey from Manali to Chandrataal, over Kothi, Beas Nalla, Marhi, Rohtang Pass(3980m), Himalayan hamlets, Chhatru, Batal a high altitude lake in the Himalayas.

The Chandrataal Lake is located on Samudra Tapu plateau of Spiti valley and is listed among the high altitude lakes falling in the Himalayan region. The Chandrataal Lake is the source of the Chandra River which is a major tributary of Chenab River. You can spend the day relaxing here or hiking around the lake.

Day 3: Chandrataal to Kaza

Have fresh breakfast and accelerate towards Kaza district headquarters and transport hub of Spiti. Kaza serves as the place to base yourself for your explorations of Spiti. Situated along the Spiti River at an elevation of 3,650 metres (11,980 ft.) above mean sea level, Kaza is the largest township and commercial center of the valley. Its high altitude cold deserts have close similarities to the neighbouring Tibet and Ladakh regions in terms of terrain, climate and the Buddhist culture.

Day 4: Ride around Kaza (Key Monastry and Kibber Village)

Ride around Kaza. Start your journey by visiting Key Monastery, it is the largest monastery in the Spiti Valley and was established in the 11th century BC. The monastery treasures ancient Buddhist scrolls and paintings and is home to the largest number of Buddhist monks and nuns. Then to the north, visit Kibber village(4500m) which is the supposedly the highest Village in Asia. Its mere geography turns an avid traveler into a hard core Himalayan enthusisast. Kibber is a sheer phenomenon in itself.

Day 5: Kaza to Pin Valley National Park

After breakfast ride to Pin Valley National Park. The snow laden virgin reaches and slopes set against the backdrop of awe inspiring icy mountain range, a region of hills, cliffs and mountain fissures dispersed with grassy lower slopes harbours rarest of the species in animal kingdom. Snowed in for a good part of the year a trek to this fascinating wildlife habitat should be attempted once in a lifetime. The perennial streams, springs and glaciers along with rich high altitude wild habitat make Pin Valley national park a hot shot destination for spirited adventure travellers. It was established in 1987 by Government of India to prevent the further degradation of high altitude deserts in India.Pin valley arises from the glaciers of Pin-Parvati pass and is located at a height of 4802 m. It further flows down to meet Spiti, a large tributary of Sutlej at Lingti Village lower in the valley. Pin Parahio and Khamengar are major rivers that flow through the park. At most 400 species of plants have been recorded in Pin valley which is largely devoid of vegetation. Best known for its Siberian Ibex and rare snow leopard it also harbours several interesting wild animals. Tibetan wolf Canis Lupus, the Tibetan gazelle, Royale’s pika, Himalayan brown fox and the Himalayan blue sheep are some of the endangered species that can be encountered her. Several rare species of Birds can also be spotted here.

Day 6: Pin Valley National Park to Tabo Village to Dhankar Gompa

Ride to Tabo Village. Tabo is an ancient village situated on the left bank of river Spiti. The village is home to one of the most important Buddhist monasteries regarded as next to the Tholing Gompa in Tibet. The monastery has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India and is called the Ajanta of the Himalayas. There are meditation caves adjacent to the premises, which mark the border of the town. 4 stupas, 9 temples, dormitory and classrooms make up the premises of the Tabo Monastery. Unique paintings form a significant part of the monasteries’ interiors. The monastery sees a lot of footfall from local people and tourists. Your next attraction on the stop is The small settlement of Dhankar Gompa which is calm and runs at its own pace like an ordinary hamlet. Strings closely knit to its nomenclature, the village of Dhankar Gompa complex is set on 1000 foot high spur. The spectacular setup is away from the worldly echoes and noisy materialistic trumpets that we see in the bigger cities. Resting high over the valley, this is an exquisite norm of Spiti’s traditional architectural skills. With a tradition Tibetan pattern enriching its beauty, it is a fort monastery with bright colourful flags adding to the richest charm. There are small houses with roofs covered by the layers of dry twigs and woods. There is a broad road which goes to the monastery from the new monastery towards the upper side of the village. Road is marginal and full of crag. One has to exercise extra caution while climbing on that cliff. From the top of the hill that extends above the village, Dhankar looks like a bowl-shaped structure in the hills. It seems like almost all the old Dhankar houses emerged straight from the mountains with their main wall on the back being merged on the hills. This is a specialty of Dhankar houses and from wide angle or from distance provides spectacular views.

Day 7: Tabo to Nako village

After breakfast we ride to Nako village crossing Sumdo village. Cosily fitted with the village of Nako is the sacred picturesque Nako lake in the eastern Himachal Pradesh, India. The lake remains frozen during the winters and is at a 3 minutes walking distance from the village. Adding to the beauty of the lake are the snow-crowned Himalayas. Lying in a rain-shadow region, the lake is encompassed by a stone path of about 75 m radius which offers a breathtaking walk for nature lovers. This lake is leveled at a height of 3662m (12,014 ft.) above sea level. We leave Spiti and enter the Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh.Due to its remote location topped with limited tourist infrastructure, the Nako Lake is a rarely-visited but rewarding destination. The fauna of the lake includes a few species of fishes that populate at such a great height in the lake and numerous species of overhead flying birds. People enjoy skating on this lake when it freezes in the winter.

Day 8: Nako Village to Kalpa

The most impressive of all the terrestrial manifestation of God, Kalpa kindle to the religious consciousness standing like a devout worshipper waiting to be blessed. The river hurtling through deep gorges, the winding mountain bordered by chilgoza forests and the serenity of this sleepy hamlet provides the most stunning pleasure retreat to a traveller. Perched on the hilltop overlooking the Kinner Kailasa (the abode of God Shiva) and fed by Sutlej river Kalpa is a part of Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The massive snow clad scene dominated by Kinner kailash provides Kalpa a regal dignity. These mountain display a grand theatre for spectacular sights early morning as the rising sun touches the snowy peaks with crimson and golden light. The evenings are equally mesmerizing and romantic. Coupled with fruit laden orchards of Apples, apricots, pears and flower bedecked meadows it is a traveler's paradise nowhere to be found in India. The traditional architecture steeped in time showcases an exemplary example of the local craftsmanship.

Day 9: Kalpa to Sangla Valley

Ride through the beautiful and remote region of Baspa valley following the immense Sutlej River, before arriving at Sangla Valley. Check into the hotel at Sangla Valley and simply relax. If a landscape had the powers of casting spells, then the Sangla valley would be an extraordinary magician. Once seen, it is a place that can never be forgotten. Even the rushing waters of the Baspa river, that flow through its 95 km length, seem to absorb some of the magic and slows down to savor its snow-frame beauty.You can simply wish to relax yourself at the hotel or go for a local discovery to Kamru fort at a distance of 2 km or to Chitkul village at the Indo-China Border.

Day 10: Sangla Valley to Rampur

Ride towards Rampur and enter Shimla District. Overnight at Rampur.

Day 11: Rampur to Kullu Manali

We enter the Kullu District crossing Jalori Pass, Shoja and Banjar. Jalori pass join Shimla to Kullu valley. Shoja is a breathtakingly beautiful Himalayan hamlet. The mornings in Shoja are particularly invigorating. One can just stroll around, walk up to the meadows or perhaps take the pathway into the jungle. Nature lovers can enjoy thick wooded hill slopes starting from bottom as far down or up or sideways or deep as one can look. Reach Manali by evening.
