The best time to visit Amritsar is from October to March. Places to visit in Amritsar are Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Durgiana Temple, and Wagah Border.

 

Amritsar City Local Sightseeing 2 Day Tour Suggested Itinerary

Day 1:

  • Your tour will begin with a morning pick up, your chauffeur will pick you up from your Amritsar hotel/given address.
  • Post which you will be visiting the following suggested places:
  1. Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib): One of the most revered religious sites for Sikhs, the Golden Temple is a stunning architectural marvel made of gold. It's not just a place of worship but also a symbol of equality and peace. Make sure to witness the mesmerizing ceremony of the Palki Sahib and the serene ambiance around the Sarovar (sacred pool).
  2. Jallianwala Bagh: This historical site commemorates the massacre that occurred in 1919 when British troops fired on a peaceful gathering, resulting in the death of hundreds of civilians. The site has been preserved as a memorial and includes a museum with exhibits and displays related to the event.
  3. Wagah Border: Experience the electrifying atmosphere at the Wagah Border, which separates India and Pakistan. Witness the ceremonial lowering of the flags conducted by both Indian Border Security Force (BSF) and Pakistan Rangers. It's a spectacle of patriotism and fervor.
  4. Partition Museum: Located in the historic Town Hall, the Partition Museum recounts the stories of the Partition of India in 1947. Through artifacts, documents, and oral histories, it provides a poignant insight into one of the most significant events in Indian history.
  5. Akal Takht: Situated within the Golden Temple complex, Akal Takht is one of the five Takhts (seats of authority) of Sikhism. It holds significant religious and political importance and serves as a center for Sikh religious and cultural affairs.
  6. Gobindgarh Fort: This historic fort has been recently restored and opened to the public. It offers insights into the military history of the region and hosts various cultural performances and activities.
  7. Durgiana Temple: Often referred to as the "Silver Temple," Durgiana Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Its architecture resembles that of the Golden Temple and is equally impressive.
  8. Ram Bagh Garden: Built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, this garden offers a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It houses a museum dedicated to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, showcasing his weapons, paintings, and artifacts.
  • Post the tour you will be dropped back at your hotel/residence in Amritsar city limits.

Day 2:

  • The next day after your nice warm breakfast, your driver will pick you up from your hotel.
  • You will be visiting following places:
  1. Maharaja Ranjit Singh Museum: Located within the Ram Bagh Garden, this museum displays artifacts, paintings, and weapons belonging to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, providing insights into Sikh history and culture.
  2. Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai: This Gurdwara is dedicated to the son of Guru Hargobind, Baba Atal Rai. It is known for its nine-story octagonal tower and is revered by Sikhs.
  3. Hanuman Temple (Langoor Wala Mandir): Located near Hall Bazaar, this temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the monkey god. It's a popular spot for devotees, especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which are considered auspicious days for Hanuman worship.
  4. Sheetla Mata Mandir: Situated in the Rani Ka Bagh area, this temple is dedicated to Sheetla Mata, the goddess of smallpox. Devotees come here to seek blessings for the well-being of their families and to ward off diseases.
  5. Shivala Bagh Bhayian Mandir: This ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is located in the Shivala area of Amritsar. It's known for its peaceful ambiance and intricate architecture, attracting devotees and tourists alike.
  6. Shri Ram Sharnam Ashram: This spiritual center, located in the Verka area of Amritsar, is dedicated to the teachings of Shri Ram Sharma Maharaj. It hosts regular satsangs (spiritual gatherings) and provides a serene environment for meditation and prayer.
  7. Kali Mata Mandir: Situated near Chowk Phowara, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali, the fierce form of Devi. It's believed to be one of the oldest temples in Amritsar and is frequented by devotees seeking protection and blessings.
  8. Santokhsar Sahib: Although primarily known as a historic water tank associated with Guru Amar Das, the third Sikh Guru, Santokhsar Sahib also has a small temple dedicated to Sikh Gurus. It's located near the historic Ram Bagh Gardens.
  • After the completion of your tour, you will be dropped back to your hotel in the city limits.
