Mullayanagiri is the Scottish Alps of India and is considered as the highest peak of Karnataka located in bababudangiri range of chikamagalur. It is nestled between Nilgiris and Western Ghats. The altitude of mullayanagiri is 6330 feet above the sea level. It is 187 kms from Bangalore. If you believe that there is a heaven on earth then you musit visit the peak of Mullayanagiri hills. So much green all round you with mist covered, it just looks like a whipped cream. The view is breathtaking and mind boggling. Initial ghat roads are normal but the final stretch is very thrilling. Mullayanagiri trekking is surely a fantastic experience.
Trekking from sarpadhari to mullayanagiri is only 3 kms but if you wish to trek to bababudangiri then it is at a distance of 10 kilometers. While trekking you will find the denser vegetation and a rocky Nandi statue in a rocky shelter. The trail becomes less steep from here and you will start admiring the pink flowers, creepers, shrubs, cool green leaves. In this stretch there are couple of caves which will be explored. The caves of mullayanagiri are multicovered and is a home for bats, insects & frogs. The Shiva temple on the summit offers food & shelter. The trekking trail requires ridge walk and blade walk along the linear hills of the baba budangiri ranges.
When the fog clears you will admire the mountains on one side and plains on the other. The trail ends by viewing the bsnl tower which is few kilometers from the peak. There is a small lake near the tower. The final stretch of 2 kms takes you to the Baba budangiri peak. By this you have trekked the most popular trekking spot of India. You can never forget this wonderful achievement in your lifetime.During the Mullayanagiri trek you will successfully complete the 15kms steep trail inspite of gusty winds, steep paths, freezing temperatures, waterfalls, mist, scary drops, etc..
